Runner's Loop (Heel Lock)

The runner’s loop (also known as the heel lock or lace lock) is an essential lacing technique used in long-distance endurance running. By utilizing the extra top eyelet on your running shoes, you create a secure clamp that locks your heel in place without putting painful pressure across the top of your foot.

Key Benefits for Half-Marathon Runners:

  • Keeps your heel from lifting: Eliminates friction and prevents blisters from forming on the back of your ankles.
  • Stops toes from slamming: On steep downhills, your foot won't slide forward inside the toe box, saving your toenails.
  • Locks in tension: Prevents your laces from getting loose during long efforts, maintaining a comfortable, snug fit from mile 1 to 13.1.

Try applying this method to your rotation shoes (whether running in Altra, Hoka, or New Balance) and feel the immediate difference in lockdown security.
